Circa 1920s BELA 18K White Gold Art Deco Ladies’ Mechanical Watch – Swiss FIDEA Watch Co. 17 Jewels
Price: $1,695 OBO
Inventory #1434
A beautiful approximately century-old Art Deco ladies’ mechanical wristwatch featuring an elegant engraved case clearly stamped BELA 18K and a quality Swiss manual-wind movement signed FIDEA WATCH Co.
The elongated tonneau-shaped case displays classic 1920s Art Deco styling, with detailed engraved borders, a beautifully aged dial, stylized Arabic numerals, blued-steel hands and an attractive blue cabochon-style crown.
Inside is a Swiss mechanical movement marked:
FIDEA WATCH Co.
SWISS
THREE 3 ADJTS
SEVENTEEN 17 JEWELS
The 17-jewel movement and three-position adjustment indicate a more refined movement than many basic ladies’ watches produced during this period.
The interior of the case is stamped BELA 18K, confirming the identification that should be used when describing this particular watch. Previous references to “Belais” should be disregarded.
The dial retains extensive natural aging and patina accumulated over many decades. For collectors, this aged character can be preferable to an aggressively refinished or repainted dial.
The watch also features a vintage link bracelet with a patented American-made clasp. The bracelet itself should not be represented as 18K gold unless separately tested and confirmed.
Collector highlights: approximately 100 years old; BELA 18K white-gold case; Swiss FIDEA Watch Co. manual movement; 17 jewels; adjusted to three positions; engraved Art Deco case; blued hands; blue cabochon-style crown; original vintage character; engraved case back; vintage American bracelet.
Condition: Vintage condition with wear, scratches, oxidation and dial patina appropriate for its considerable age. All photographs form an important part of the description. Please examine them carefully.
Dating is an informed estimate based upon the watch’s design, construction, movement and markings and should be described as circa 1920s rather than as an exact factory production year unless further documentation is discovered.

This is not simply an old watch. It is a surviving piece of 1920s Art Deco watchmaking history, dating to approximately the mid-1920s and now more than a century old.
The beautifully engraved case is stamped BELA 18K, confirming a solid 18K white-gold case from an era when white gold was becoming one of America’s most fashionable luxury materials.
Inside is a fascinating Swiss FIDEA Watch Co. manual-wind movement, marked:
⚙️ 17 Jewels
⚙️ Adjusted to 3 Positions
⚙️ Swiss Made
Its elongated Art Deco case, blued-steel hands, blue cabochon-style crown, period bracelet and wonderfully aged dial preserve the character of a watch that has survived approximately 100 years of changing fashion and watchmaking technology.
For collectors of American horological history, Art Deco jewelry, early wristwatches, mechanical movements and precious-metal watches, pieces like this offer something modern watches simply cannot reproduce: authentic history.
The natural patina has been preserved rather than erased — every mark tells part of its century-long story.
