8mm Watchmakers Lathe G. Boley, L&R, Hammel Riglander & Co..
You are bidding on a Watchmakers Lathe, a Boley 1a from what I can tell. Please read the description in its entirety. Please ask any questions, I will do my best to answer them in a timely manner.
This sale is for a near complete watchmakers lathe, with working variable speed motor. The Bed and collets are stamped G. Boley, The Bed serial number is 19733. The bed has very slight marking in the last 1/2" of one end, otherwise looks very nice.
The collets are also all G. Boley, and are sizes 2,3,4,8,10,12,14,16,17,18,20,22,30,32,35,40,44,46,50, and one tapered to take centers. The collet box is included but heavily damaged.
The headstock is unlabeled, and believed to be Hammel & Riglander. The Nickel finish is not perfect on the headstock, and it appears that something fell on the pulley, the largest pully has a slight flat spot on the high edge that will not affect operation, but is not perfect. The headstock also has one loose retaining ring that is included. The previous owner wanted to disassemble and clean, but stopped when they could not get the retainer back on. Headstock bearings appear to be in perfect working order.
The 3 Jaw chuck is labeled with HR, so is believed to be Hammel and Riglander. It appears to be in great shape and operates smoothly.
The tailstock has no makers mark, and the wooden handle on the back is damaged, but functions as intended.
The Smith Rest has no makers mark, but looks nice and appears to function as intended.
The motor is an L&R lathe motor, variable speed with foot pedal. When plugged in and operated, it is quiet and responds well to the variable speed pedal.
The motor and bed are mounted to a Borel base.
The lathe is sold as is not tested. This is for (2) main reasons. First off, I have no drive belt for this lathe. Secondly, I do not believe the headstock and collets are compatible. They are both 8mm, but as is well documented, different makers have subtle differences that make them challenging to mix, and the headstock takes the HR 3 jaw chuck beautifully, while the G. Boley collets seem to have an interference fit, which I have not forced.
Bottom line, this is a beautiful but not perfect complete lathe with a 3 jaw chuck, and some collets to boot.
Thanks for looking, and please ask any questions prior to purchase
Turning metal is a lot of fun, enjoy your projects, whether just starting or an old pro, keep it fun!t
Lathe will be well packaged, and will carry insurance equal to purchase price.
